Pottermore Magical Quill Challenge Ends: Scams and “Early” Entry

If you did not participate in the Magical Quill Challenge, your chance to get into Pottermore early has unfortunately passed. The Challenge ended on Saturday 8/6, with supposedly all 1 million beta spots filled. There has been talk of people registering for multiple accounts under one email address and multiple email addresses, among other things such as websites and Twitter users posting the answers to the Challenge questions and people running scams trying to sell Pottermore accounts.

You may have noticed that I chose not to post the answers. Sorry to everyone who was looking to the site for the answers, but I chose not to post them to be fair. I felt like everyone should solve the clues on their own, instead of just popping up a website for the answer and getting their early access invite. It was supposed to be a competitive thing, and I didn’t want to participate in giving people answers.

As for the people with multiple accounts/user names, it is being assumed that they are taking up more than their share of the 1 million. However, and this is not confirmed but only my thinking, if they used the same email address I think they still only take up 1 invite. The invites go out by email, so when they send your “Welcome Email” out to start using Pottermore early, I would assume you could use any one of the accounts you registered for with that email and it would only count for 1 in that million. However, those that registered with more than one email can be assumed cheaters I should think, definitely taking up more than 1 beta spot. This is just my thinking, I could be wrong though.

Even so, despite everyone’s efforts, they may not get in until September 30th. Yes, you heard right. Pottermore’s own web page states: “The Magical Quill early entry period runs from 31 July 2011 to 30 September 2011. During this time, you will receive a Welcome email notifying you that your account has been enabled for access to Pottermore. If you did not register during The Magical Quill period, you will be able to register after the Magical Quill promotion has closed for entry in October 2011, when the site will be open to all. Keep checking Pottermore to find out when registration is open to all.”  So even after we’ve all stayed up all night to answer the clues, confirmed our accounts and await our welcome emails, they may not come until the last day of September for some of us. For those- enjoy your day of “early” Pottermore access!
